About Me

I’m Carlos García Cordero, a systems engineer, mathematician, musician and thinker.

I’m a programmer. I was born one. I started programming when I was 10 years old. I wrongly believed that the first programming language I had to learn needed to be the most basic one. As such, I started learning x86 assembly. Soon, after realizing that I wanted to interact with my programs over the Internet, I started studying web technologies. HTML, CSS, javascript, XML and the like followed. When I started to feel limited with those technologies and languages, I began studying CGI scripting with Perl and Python. By the time I was 15 I was reading systems engineering books as if they were novels: from databases and operating systems to compilers and networking. By this time I also started working with GNU/Linux and other Unix systems. And along came C and C++. By the time I started using GNU/Linux full time I began digging deeper into the platform. I began learning C and C++ as these were the main languages used in the development of GNU/Linux. I spent much time programming simple drivers and modifying the kernel.

I’m a mathematics enthusiast. I have a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence and Cyber-Security. I decided to pursue these studies as I am not only interested in the challenges, but also in the mathematics of the field. I have a good understanding of algebra, calculus, differential equations, orbital mechanics and linear algebra. I find graphic and physic engines fascinating.

I’m a musician. I have studied the performance and interpretation of classical guitar, and I’ve been playing guitar (and other instruments) for more than 20 years. I have a solid background in music theory and some basic background regarding composition. I’m attracted to musical instruments and I’m always trying to learn to play something new. The classical guitar is my main instrument, but I also play the electric guitar, bass, piano, drums, bagpipes, harmonica and ocarina. I feel attracted to many styles of music; nevertheless, my musical passion lies within the realms of classical and metal music.

I’m a thinker. I’m always motivated to read philosophical and technical works and ideas. I try to follow advancements in the field of quantum mechanics and the interpretation of the world as a physics system. I have a passion for understanding and dissecting the internals of systems; I love to learn. Sometimes I cannot avoid looking at things as complex numeric systems interacting between each other. I’m also an avid fan of board games and video games. Go/Baduk/Igo/WeiQi is my favorite game and I distract my mind solving the Rubik’s cube.
